IMG_3803res The render was removed only where necessary. The damages were due to water ingress and previous repair work executed with cement render, which has different physical characteristics to lime-based render. In historical buildings, renders based on cement or lime are not compatible.

Render repair work in a heritage building
The customer was keen to preserve as much of the original render as possible and have the repair work executed with materials and technologies compatible with the historic building fabric.
The existing render is a soft and flexible lime render. The render used for the repair work must be as close as possible to the original render. For this purpose, we used various graded sands and, as the binder, a mix of natural hydraulic lime (NHL 2) and hydrated lime, thereby achieving a soft and flexible render.
